Evidenced based practice also shows that preoperative nasal screening for bacterial colonization is important prior to joint surgery. Testing for the presence of bacteria (particularly the Staphylococcus species) in the nasal passages several weeks prior to surgery may help prevent joint infection. Just the same way dental screening it important before a cardiac surgery.
