Requirements: First, choose an example of “unethical” corporate behavior to analyze. You may use one of the stories linked below in videos or you may choose an example of your own. If you choose your own example, link your source material at the top of your paper. The correct concept labels should be used, but the assignment must be written in your own words – points will be deducted for exact quotes from text or other sources (up to an including a zero for the assignment). This assignment is worth 75 points. If it is easier to write the essay, you can write as an outside party or as a manager in the company. Second, complete an essay providing detailed concept applications on the issues listed below. Third, submit your assignment by Sunday, Sept 29th at 11:59 p.m. A strong written response (answers) should be between 2 to 3 pages long. You may write a longer response but no more than 4 pages long. Responses must be in Calibri (Body), Helvetica, Helvetica Neue, or Times New Roman, 12-point font. Refer to the concepts in Chapter 3 and provide a detailed examination of the following issues. 1. (15 points) Examine the three layers of the organization’s environment as displayed in Figure 3.1. Write a detailed paragraph about each layer including specific examples to illustrate your application of the many elements in each environment (General, Task, and Internal). Your paragraph should specifically discuss how the individuals and groups were impacted by the organization. 2. (10 points) Write a paragraph explaining how the example shows a violation of the text definition of ethics and ethical behavior. 3. (10 points) Write a paragraph describing the ethical dilemma embedded in the example. 4. (30 points) Separately describe how each of the four approaches to deciding an ethical dilemma applies applied to the example. Be sure to write a detailed paragraph on each approach to illustrate your understanding of how they apply. 4.1. According to the utilitarian Approach… 4.2. According to the individual Approach… 4.3. (10 points) Using the suggestions from the text (pp.90-91), describe a plan for the workplace that would improve the ethical climate in the organization and reduce the likelihood of further ethical problems.
